Brad Pitt slays 'em in a raucous WWII flick
By THELMA ADAMSOPENS: FRIDAY 8/21

Quentin Tarantino's exciting WWII tale centers on a band of handpicked Jewish guerrilla warriors who kill Nazis behind enemy lines in occupied France from 1941–44. An energetic Brad Pitt sets the tone as the group's rowdy lieutenant, who encourages his men to literally take the scalps off their enemies. This leads to many gory moments — close-ups of knives, skulls and brains — though they're dialed back by blood-loving Tarantino's standards. Filled with vigorous acting (Christoph Waltz could get an Oscar nod for his smooth-talking Nazi) and dense, comic dialogue, the flick satisfies. One quibble: Since the movie is told in episodes, it doesn't build to the big bang that audiences crave.
